WHEELTOP EDS Troubleshooting Guide

← Back to User Manuals

Most WHEELTOP EDS shifting problems come down to one of three things: a Bluetooth pairing issue, a calibration step that was skipped, or a charging cable that isn't fully seated. Work through the section that matches what you're seeing before assuming a part is defective — and if you get to the end of a section and it still won't behave, that's the point to reach out to us rather than keep troubleshooting on your own.

Rear derailleur issues

App can't find the derailleur after charging

If the app's Bluetooth scan never picks up the derailleur once it's off the charger, check the status light before anything else — it's the fastest way to tell whether the unit is actually ready to pair.

  1. Unplug the magnetic charging cable completely. A cable that's still connected, even loosely, can keep the derailleur in charging mode and block it from being discoverable over Bluetooth.
  2. Check the indicator light. Red means it's still charging — give it a few more minutes. You're looking for the light to switch to blue, which is the signal that it's powered on and ready to pair, not just "not red."
  3. Open the WHEELTOP EDS app, make sure your phone's Bluetooth is on, and start the device search again from the pairing screen.
  4. If it still isn't found, move your phone closer to the derailleur and restart the app before trying again — a stalled Bluetooth session on the phone side is a common false alarm.
⚠️

If the light never turns blue after a full charge, don't keep cycling the charger — that usually points to a charging-circuit fault rather than a pairing problem. Contact us with your order details and we'll sort out a warranty replacement.

Derailleur is paired, but shift commands don't do anything

This is a different failure mode from the one above — the app sees the derailleur and the battery reads normally, but nothing moves when you shift.

  1. Confirm the battery percentage in the app looks normal and the connection status shows as active.
  2. Run the derailleur's initial calibration from the app's setup menu. This is a required one-time step after pairing (or after a factory reset) — shifting won't work correctly until it's done, even though pairing itself succeeds without it.
  3. Send a shift command and watch the derailleur's light. A blink confirms the command was received wirelessly. If the light blinks but the cage doesn't physically move, the wireless side is working fine and the issue is mechanical or electrical inside the unit.
  4. If the calibration buttons in the app get no response at all — no light, no confirmation — the unit likely isn't executing commands at the firmware level.
⚠️

Light blinks on every command but the derailleur never moves, even after a completed calibration? That's a hardware fault, not a setup mistake — get in touch and we'll arrange a replacement under warranty.

Front derailleur issues

Front derailleur troubleshooting follows the same order as the rear: confirm pairing, confirm power, then confirm calibration.

  1. Make sure the front derailleur shows as successfully paired in the app — don't skip straight to calibration if pairing itself hasn't been confirmed.
  2. Check that both the front and rear derailleur batteries read normal levels. A low front battery can make calibration behave inconsistently even when the rear system works fine.
  3. Run calibration from the app. Watch for the same signal: the indicator light reacting to the shift command versus the derailleur actually moving are two separate things.
  4. If the light responds but there's no physical movement, and the calibration buttons themselves are unresponsive, this points to the same kind of internal fault as the rear derailleur case above.

Hand shifter issues

Buttons don't respond, or only shift in one direction

  1. First, shift the rear derailleur directly from the app. If that works normally, the derailleur and its pairing are fine — the problem is isolated to the physical shifter.
  2. Press each shifter button individually and watch for any indicator light response. No light at all on a button press means the shifter isn't registering the input, rather than a signal or pairing issue further down the chain.
  3. A shifter that works in one direction but not the other usually means one button (or its contact) has failed, rather than a system-wide pairing problem — since the same shifter successfully sends the other direction's command.

App-based shifting works, but the hand shifter won't control the derailleur at all

  1. Reconnect the magnetic charging cable fully and let the system complete a normal charge cycle — a partial or interrupted connection here can leave the shifter unpaired even though everything looks physically connected.
  2. Re-pair the full system from scratch in the app rather than just the shifter on its own.
  3. Check the shifter's pairing status specifically in the app before testing it physically.
  4. Confirm shifting works through the app first, then test the physical shifter — this order matters, since it tells you whether the derailleur side is healthy before you start troubleshooting the shifter itself.
