Description

Ultra-Light Expansion Star Nut

CNC-machined aluminum alloy, anodized red. Made for 28.6 mm (1-1/8") carbon fork steerers: it expands against the inside of the steerer instead of biting into it, holds the top cap securely and can be taken out and reused. It weighs just 16.5 g.

Reusable, Secure and Fork-Safe

Knurled CNC body with two O-rings

Two O-rings and a knurled outer surface grip the inner wall of the steerer evenly, so the load is spread rather than concentrated on a few sharp teeth like a traditional star nut.

Material

CNC Aluminum Alloy

Lightweight, anodized finish

Steerer

28.6 mm (1-1/8")

Carbon fork steerers

Expansion range

23–25.5 mm

Steerer inner diameter

Tool

8 mm hex key

Torque 10 N·m+ (tighten firmly)

Anti-Spin Pin on the Nut

The cone nut now has small pins that stop the nut and bolt from spinning freely while you tighten, so it expands first time.

Installation Steps

Installation step 1

Step 1

Insert the star nut into the fork steerer tube, about halfway down.

Installation step 2

Step 2

Use an 8 mm hex key to tighten until the O-rings grip the inner wall of the steerer tube.

Installation step 3

Step 3

Push the star nut down until it is fully seated inside the steerer tube, then tighten securely.

What It Does

Star nut fitted in a carbon steerer

The star nut works with the headset top cap to preload the headset bearings and remove play from the headset. It also holds the top cap in place, tidies the look of the steerer and helps keep water out.
