I Tested a €739 Electronic Groupset! WheelTop EDS-TX Deep Review: Can it Really Rival Shimano and SRAM?

Today I'm showing you something quite unique that you might not know yet—the WheelTop EDS-TX electronic groupset. It’s not Shimano, not SRAM, and not Campagnolo. When I first received this kit, priced at around €739, I was genuinely excited because it's my first time handling an electronic system outside the "Big Three."

First off, in terms of look and feel, the shifters remind me a lot of the old SRAM Red 11-speed mechanical hoods—very compact. As someone used to Dura-Ace, I have to admit the build quality exceeded my expectations: carbon fiber levers and a subtle "black-on-black" logo. A huge selling point here is its incredible compatibility! You don't need to change your existing crankset, cassette, or chain. Through the app, you can set it to work with anything from 7 to 13 speeds. This means if you have an older 10 or 11-speed mechanical bike and want to go electronic, this is likely the most cost-effective and simplest path.

During the actual test ride on a Cannondale System 6, the performance surprised me. While the shifting precision isn't quite at the level of a top-tier Dura-Ace, its speed and smoothness are definitely on par with SRAM Rival eTap and certainly better than mechanical systems. It features a "Race Mode" for snappier shifts and a "Normal Mode" for battery saving. The braking uses mineral oil and feels more like the modulation of a SRAM system. Although it's an emerging brand, it offers a 2-year warranty and fine-tuning via the app. If you’re looking to experience electronic shifting without spending a fortune, this is a very valid alternative.
