What’s up guys, Eric here! After putting the WHEELTOP EDS TX through its paces on my Chapter 2 all through the 2024 season with zero issues—even in races—I was beyond excited when the team at WHEELTOP reached out about their new gravel-specific EDS GEX 1x groupset. It's time to go wireless on the gravel bike!

Let's talk features. This GEX system is basically future-proof; it’s fully customizable from 3 up to 14 speeds. Yes, you heard that right—14 speeds! The installation is a breeze because it’s completely wireless (minus the brake lines), and the app lets you fine-tune every gear ratio to your heart's content. Plus, with an IP67 waterproof rating and a battery that promises around 20,000 shifts, it’s built for whatever Mother Nature throws at you.

Diving into the box, the rear derailleur is a 'beefy boy' with a solid build and what looks like a dampener system for those bumpy trails. I’ve got the aluminum shifters this time; they have a very familiar, comfortable feel, very close to the carbon ones I use on my road bike. One big improvement I noticed is the new disc brake calipers—they look much sleeker and 'prettier' than the older design. WHEELTOP even included a proper oil injection kit with a syringe and a bleed cup that actually has a good seal, which is going to make the hydraulic setup so much easier.

I also wanted to show you how easy it is to pair the shifters to the derailleur, as that’s usually what people find most intimidating. All it takes is waking up the derailleur with the charging cable, then holding a button while popping the battery into the shifter. Within seconds, I had it shifting up and down perfectly. I’m just waiting on a few more parts—a new crank and chain—and then we’re doing the full gravel build for the 2025 season. Stay tuned!
