EDS OX2.0

Wheeltop EDS-OX 2.0 In-depth Unboxing & Review: The Strong SRAM AXS Alternative, Full Comparison of Wireless MTB Groupsets

Hey everyone! Today we're diving into the latest masterpiece from the veteran brand Wheeltop: the EDS-OX 2.0 wireless electronic groupset. As the successor to the original 2022 OX series, its goal is clear: to be the top high-performance wireless shifting alternative on the market.

First Impressions & Unboxing: The 2.0 packaging is quite premium, with a color-shifting logo that screams tech. It comes in two versions: a 75mm short cage (up to 46T) and a 93mm long cage (up to 52T). The long cage version we have features a polished glossy finish, looking much more high-end than the matte texture of the first generation.

Key Upgrades & Changes:

Performance Boost: The 2.0 is noticeably quieter than the first gen, and the upshifting speed is significantly faster.

Structural Strengthening: The flimsy hook washer from the first gen has finally been replaced by a 1.5mm thick, one-piece metal component, greatly improving durability. Also, the parallelogram structure now uses Allen bolts instead of rivets, making future servicing much more feasible.

Compatibility: The craziest thing about this system is its compatibility; via the app, it supports everything from 3 to 14 speeds, fitting almost any MTB frame on the market.

My Critiques & Concerns: Despite the progress, two 2.0 design choices puzzle me. First is the charging port location: Gen 1 was conveniently at the back of the battery; Gen 2 moved it to the inner side with a cover, making access very tight when in the smallest cog. Second is sealing: While Gen 1 was fully encapsulated, Gen 2 has an exposed connecting wire and more screw holes, raising questions about durability in muddy conditions.

App & Ecosystem: Wheeltop is constantly optimizing its app, and the pairing process is very fast. Once connected, you can directly set the number of gears and perform micro-adjustments. Currently, it stands as a very mature and competitive system.
