WHEELTOP EDS OX 2.0 MTB Installation Guide & Step-by-Step Tuning Tutorial

Hey, hello from the office! Today, I’m not bringing you a normal unboxing; I’m bringing you a complete, step-by-step installation and tuning guide for the WHEELTOP EDS OX 2.0, the most advanced electronic groupset for your mountain bike. I know many of you bought this groupset but couldn't find a proper tutorial, so we are going to see how incredibly simple it is. You will only need a set of Allen keys, a bicycle, and your WHEELTOP group. Inside the box, you’ll find a manual with a QR code to download the app and check specs, the electronic rear derailleur, the wireless shifter, the charger, and a USB-C to USB adapter.

The installation is very straightforward. The rear derailleur attaches to the frame's derailleur hanger using a 5mm Allen key, and it must be torqued to 8 Nm. Just make sure the stopper piece sits correctly above the hanger tab before tightening. For the handlebar, you need to remove the grip and brake lever because the shifter clamp doesn’t open completely. Slide the shifter on and tighten it using a 4mm Allen key. Many of you asked me if this shifter is Matchmaker compatible, and I have to tell you that it is not, so you must install it with its own clamp.

For the mechanical adjustment, there are three crucial screws you need to know. First, the 3mm Allen screw at the back regulates the B-gap tension. Then, using a 2mm Allen key, you have a somewhat hidden screw that limits the high end (large sprocket). The third secret screw is hidden inside the main body under a protective cover. After removing this cover with the 2mm Allen key, you will see two internal screws: the top one adjusts the internal spring stiffness of the cage, and the bottom one sets the low-end limit (small sprocket).

To install the chain, place it on the smallest sprocket and wrap it around the chainring and the largest sprocket. For a hardtail bike, add two double links; for a full-suspension bike, add one double link. Thread it correctly through the pulley wheels, making sure it goes behind the metal tab on the cage to avoid noise. To lock the quick-link without specific tools, move it to the upper section of the chain, hold the rear brake tightly, and give the crankarm a sharp downward hit. Don't worry if the chain hangs loose at first. Shift to the largest sprocket; if it doesn't reach, loosen that 2mm high-limit screw. Once on the big sprocket, tighten the 3mm B-tension screw until there is about one finger of clearance between the upper pulley and the sprocket. Then, shift to the smallest sprocket, open the secret cover, and adjust the bottom limit screw until the chain aligns perfectly without making noise.

Finally, we do the electronic fine-tuning through the mobile app (iOS/Android). Wake up the derailleur with a quick click on the shifter, pair it, and name your bike. In the settings, select your cassette speed—it supports anywhere from 3 to 14 speeds (mine is 12-speed). For the initial calibration, tell the app you are on the smallest sprocket (gear 1) and shift through. Remarkably, just by selecting 12-speeds, the system automatically maps each gear perfectly without noise. However, if you use a non-original cassette or need a precision tweak, you can use the "Fine Tuning" menu. Here, every single gear has its own adjustable value. If a gear struggles to shift up, you increase the number to push the derailleur further; if the number is too high, it might skip a gear. This completely eliminates brand limitations, letting you mix and match any components. Remember, it's almost impossible to run out of battery since a single charge gives you over 15,000 shifts!
