WHEELTOP EDS-TX Rear Derailleur Fix: Installing the New OSPW Carbon Cage Upgrade

My WHEELTOP EDS-TX rear derailleur cage unfortunately broke, but it turned out to be the perfect excuse to try out the new WHEELTOP OSPW (Oversized Pulley Wheel) Upgrade Kit. This new carbon cage features large pulley wheels equipped with ceramic bearings, promising much smoother shifting and improved drivetrain efficiency. I decided to tackle the entire replacement and upgrade process myself, tracking it step-by-step.

The job started with opening up the chain so I could cleanly remove the rear derailleur from my bike frame. Once the derailleur was on the workbench, I began disassembling the broken cage setup. Removing the old, damaged cage required carefully releasing the tension before taking it completely off the derailleur body. With everything cleared, I took a close look at the new OSPW carbon cage—the construction looks incredible, and the ceramic bearings feel super smooth. I also did a quick weight comparison on the scale between the old stock parts and the new oversized setup to see exactly what changed.

Installing the new carbon cage onto the derailleur body was next. The most critical part of this step was properly locking the cage spring into its designated position and reinstalling the retaining screws before winding and loading the spring to give it the correct tension. After everything was bolted down, I carefully checked the manual movement of the derailleur to ensure the spring was engaging flawlessly without any binding.

With the derailleur successfully rebuilt, I mounted it back onto my bike frame and reinstalled the chain, routing it properly through the new large ceramic pulleys. Finally, I ran through the gears for a final test to check the chain length and ensure the shifting was dialed in perfectly. It’s an awesome, functional upgrade that brings my derailleur back to life while making the bike look incredibly sharp!
