WHEELTOP Road EDS-TX OSPW Carbon Cage Upgrade: Installation & App Tuning Guide

Today, I am showing you a brand-new release from WHEELTOP for their EDS-TX road rear derailleurs: an oversized pulley wheel system (OSPW) featuring a full carbon cage and ceramic bearings. It promises a more efficient pedaling experience, smoother linear shifting, and better handling under high loads. This product is currently in extremely high demand and almost out of stock on their website. I have been running the WHEELTOP system on this rental bike for a whole year now with all original components functioning flawlessly, except for one minor mishap where some rental clients managed to get the derailleur blocked on a multi-day tour. They lacked the patience to fix it since adjusting this system strictly requires the WHEELTOP App and the charging cable to connect it. Once you know the trick, it’s actually very simple, and I quickly got it running smoothly again.

To upgrade to this beautiful carbon OSPW, I started by removing the chain. This was my very first time taking apart a WHEELTOP cage, but the logic is similar to other brands. I shifted the derailleur all the way to the largest sprocket to make it easier, used a 3mm Allen key to loosen the pulley wheel, and removed the rear cage retention pin located at the bottom of the derailleur body with a 1.5mm Allen key. After a year of rental use, the spring was still in surprisingly good shape. I cleaned the interior, applied a generous amount of grease to the spring, and lined it up with one of the two tension slots in the new cage. I recommend adding threadlocker to the screws during reassembly to prevent them from loosening over time. After putting the chain back on, there was no need to resize it for my current 11-30T cassette. This rear derailleur is highly customizable and versatile; it officially supports a sprocket range from a 10T up to a 36T maximum, and through the app, you can configure it to work perfectly with anything from 3 to 14 speeds—making it an amazing replacement group for old bikes, especially now that 11-speed Shimano Ultegra shifters are discontinued and hard to find.

Finally, I connected the derailleur to the WHEELTOP App (where I have this bike saved under the name "Orca"). I completed a quick shifter firmware update, making sure to keep my phone screen awake while it transferred the files. Within the app, you can choose between Casual Mode (slower) and Racing Mode (much faster). To perfectly dial in the shifting, I entered the "Debug" gear menu. First-time setups require selecting your cassette speed (11-speed in my case), followed by the "Initial Calibration" on the smallest bottom sprocket to register the baseline. Then, I used the "Fine Tune" menu to individually adjust each sprocket’s micro-position using the digital numbers on the screen while physically shifting through the gears. I noticed the 6th sprocket wasn't shifting cleanly, so I tweaked its individual number until it snapped perfectly into place. Once satisfied, you just exit back using the arrow and disconnect—avoid clicking "One-Click Recovery" as it resets your work. I made sure to tightly close the rubber charging port covers to keep out water and dirt. The bike is rolling smoothly, it looks incredibly sharp with that massive spinning pulley, and a rental client is taking it out tomorrow to give us the ultimate real-world feedback!
