WHEELTOP Road TX OSPW Carbon Cage Upgrade: Ultimate Bike Bling Installation

For the past few months, I have been riding the WHEELTOP Road TX electronic wireless groupset on my road bike, and it has absolutely exceeded all of my expectations. Compared to big brands like ShraMM, which can easily blow past £2,000, this setup comes in around the £600 mark. Even though it is not a full groupset—requiring you to source your own crankset and brake rotors—it is an incredible, wallet-friendly alternative. My bike is unashamedly built with high-quality Chinese components: an AliExpress crankset, Icon cycling wheels, and the WHEELTOP TX groupset. It performs flawlessly and would have cost significantly more with mainstream brands. Now, the team at WHEELTOP wanted to make this setup even more bespoke, so they sent me their brand new, exclusive OSPW (Oversized Pulley Wheel) carbon cage system.

It comes in a subtle plain color and a gorgeous rainbow version. Since I have rainbow decals on my frame and a rainbow chain, the rainbow version is the absolute perfect addition for some serious bike bling. The craftsmanship is beautiful, featuring a subtle carbon finish on the front, a stunning carbon weave pattern on the reverse side, and a unique middle hollow cut-out design. Of course, it features the obligatory ceramic bearings that spin forever. Functionality aside, I honestly care more about making my bike look stunningly bling, but it does offer real, marginal gains. The larger wheels guide the chain at a gentler angle, reducing tension and drivetrain friction to save watts, while making the shifting feel noticeably crisper and more solid. The cage features two tension tuning holes. I prefer a very tight rear derailleur setup for fast, reliable shifting, so I aimed for the tighter tension setup.

The installation was incredibly simple, requiring just undoing three bolts, swapping the stock cage, and popping the new carbon one on. WHEELTOP provides an excellent step-by-step instructional video that makes the process foolproof, and my gears shifted perfectly immediately without any adjustments. Now, while it is ideal to run a slightly longer chain due to the larger oversized pulley teeth, I only recently put a fresh 12-speed chain on and didn't want to buy a new one just for this setup. When shifting into the largest-to-largest cross-chaining combination (big-big), it does pull the derailleur cage quite far forward. However, I rarely ride in this position anyway as I dislike cross-chaining, so it will be perfectly fine for my rides. Ultimately, this OSPW is a high-quality, easily installed piece of kit that delivers great aesthetics and crisp shifting at a fraction of the cost of its premium competitors!
