“It Just Stopped Shifting”: WHEELTOP EDS Roadside Checklist

Shifter not responding, both buttons doing the same job, or the tune gone after a rough road. Work through this list before you treat it as a failed part.

The message we hear is “it just stopped shifting.” Sometimes the buttons do nothing. Sometimes both buttons do the same thing. Sometimes the tune is gone after a rough road. Go through this list in order. The longer troubleshooting guide and the troubleshooting manual cover the same parts in more detail.

First test: shift from the app

Shift the rear derailleur from the WHEELTOP app. If it moves cleanly, the derailleur is fine and the fault is in the shift lever or the trigger shifter.

Shifter or lever not responding

This shows up most often after a wet or muddy ride.

  1. Tighten the battery cover with a coin.
  2. Take the coin cell out and wipe the contacts in the battery bay. Keep them dry, then fit the cell again.
  3. Or fit a new CR2032.

Try the buttons again before you assume the lever has failed.

Both buttons do the same thing

If both buttons run the function you assigned to the small button, open the SW tab and run Factory restore. If they still will not split into two functions after that, treat it as a hardware fault and use the warranty steps at the end of this page.

Derailleur won’t wake / no lights

A new or stored derailleur ships switched off. Plug in the magnetic charging cable to wake it. The lights mean:

BluePairing or fine-tune modePairing or fine-tune mode
GreenPaired, or shift modePaired, or a shift

RedCoin cell emptyEmpty. A red battery light can also mean it is charging.

Shifting drifted after rough roads

Check these before you replace anything:

  1. The hanger is still straight, and the derailleur tab is still sitting on the hanger step.
  2. The chain is the right length.
  3. Initial calibration is still lined up on the smallest cog.
  4. On the largest cog, the upper guide pulley is about 8–10 mm from the cog. That gap is the tension screw.
  5. The limit screws just touch, then sit a quarter turn back.
  6. Fine-tune the gear that misses, on its own.

After the first few rides on a newly fitted derailleur, check the small screws on the derailleur, including the link screws, and snug them. They can ease off as the parts settle. Tighten them. Don’t force them. We don’t publish a torque for that snug-up.

The full calibration order is in can’t align the derailleur with 1st gear.

When it’s a hardware fault

Warranty terms are only on the warranty page. Email support@aoeagle.com with your proof of purchase and one complete video of the fault. Press each button in turn, and film the derailleur’s response in the same clip. We review the video, then apply to WHEELTOP for a replacement. Sending the video does not by itself approve a replacement.

You can also write from the contact page. For a quote on a repair, use the same email. We don’t list part prices here.
