WHEELTOP EDS TX Review: 2x Wireless Road Groupset

What the EDS TX is, which cassettes and brakes it accepts, and the setup points buyers ask about. Specifications only. This is not a ride test.

This WHEELTOP EDS TX review collects the published specifications and the setup facts buyers ask for. It is not a ride report, and it does not score the TX against Shimano Di2 or SRAM AXS. Current kits are on the EDS TX product page. The kit on sale is the current version.

If you are choosing between this and a 1x gravel kit, read GeX vs TX. For the Di2 question, see WHEELTOP EDS vs Shimano Di2.

What the EDS TX is

The EDS TX is a 2x wireless electronic groupset for drop bars: an electronic front derailleur, an electronic rear derailleur, and left and right shift levers. There is no battery in the frame. Each derailleur has its own built-in rechargeable battery, and each lever uses a CR2032 coin cell. The system is wireless, over BLE and ANT+, so a bike computer can show the gear and the battery level.

The levers are carbon across the range. On the disc version, alloy and carbon refer to the rear derailleur cage, not the levers. Disc kits are offered as a 2x alloy disc brake, a 2x carbon disc brake, and a 2x carbon disc brake with an oversized pulley cage.

Gears and cassettes

The speed count is set in the WHEELTOP app. The product page lists the kit as 7–14 speed. The largest cog is 36T. The guide pulleys are 12T. A double setup uses the front derailleur. On a 1x bike you leave the front derailleur off, and you can set both levers to control the rear. A 2x small kit is not sold as separate pieces, and the front derailleur is not deleted from that kit. Keep it if you are on one chainring now and may want two later.

Cage, chain and hanger limits are in cassette and frame compatibility.

Brakes

Rim-brake levers pull the standard cable calipers already on your bike. Those calipers are not in the kit, except on a big kit.

Disc calipers are flat mount only. The hose insert and olive match Shimano BH90. The mounts supplied are for a 160 mm rotor, and the kit does not include rotors, a chain, a cassette or chainrings. Calipers are one-piece CNC, with ceramic pistons, and they use mineral oil. Shimano mineral oil is usable. The calipers and hoses come already bled. After you fit them, attach a bleed funnel at the lever and squeeze until no more bubbles appear.

Battery and charging

The rear derailleur battery is 800 mAh, rated for about 20,000+ shifts per charge. The front derailleur has its own built-in rechargeable battery. Both charge on the magnetic pogo-pin cable, one after the other. One cable is enough. A red light means charging. Neither battery comes off for you to swap. Shifter cells are CR2032, changed without tools, and one cell typically lasts more than a year.

More on charge life is in WHEELTOP battery questions.

Setup

The kit arrives paired. Wake it with the charging cable. In the app, set the cassette speed under Flywheel settings, then calibrate with the chain on the smallest cog and the largest chainring. Fine-tune each gear from there. The button-by-button order, including the “won’t reach 1st gear” recovery, is the calibration guide. The fitting sequence is the TX installation guide, and the manual is the EDS TX manual.

A CHOHO chain works with the standard TX cage. It does not work with the TX ceramic oversized pulley cage.

Warranty

Coverage is the 1-year limited warranty. A fault claim needs your proof of purchase and a full video of the fault, emailed to support@aoeagle.com. We review the video and then apply to WHEELTOP for a replacement.
